Latest Happenings in CLV...
- Hallowe'en is tomorrow. I will be paying a visit to each of the units sometime tomorrow evening with a special treat. Hope to catch you guys in your costumes! If you're looking for a Halloween party to go to on campus...Bomber (All ages) and Fed Hall 19+. Both require tickets. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the FEDS Office or at the door (I think). Check out www.feds.ca for more info.
- I'm missing emails from quite a few of my residents. If you can send me a quick Hi from your email to clvdon@gmail. com. that would be much appreciated. Otherwise I'll hunt you down!
- Rangers Hockey Game...this Friday, November 3, 2006. Tickets are $16 for students, includes admission and transportation. They're playing London Knights...big time rivals. Kinda like the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators. Top quality hockey. Definitely worth going. And all the tickets we reserved have been paid for already...so come, bring your friends. :)
- CLV trip to Toronto, Nov. 12, 2006. Tickets are $10..includes return transportation. It's a self-guided tour. Bus leaves CLV at 10am and returns around 7pm. To be confirmed. But keep your eye out for posters for the trip coming to you soon!
- CLV Bomber night..it's in the works. That's all I can say. Should be a blast!
- And in the time that I wrote this...I forgot to eat my cereal. So it's all soggy now. Thought you wanted to know. ;)
Have a great day!

Dinner anyone???
Dinner at your Don's
Yay...ROUND 2!!!! Finally..it's coming. Not telling you what I'm serving...but meat and vegetarian options will be available. You know the drill this time around, bring your own plate, utensils, and cup. I'll provide the food and drinks. So spread the word... I want to see you guys for dinner! Key learning from last time...email clvdon@gmail.com to RSVP. Please RSVP by Nov. 12, 2006.
Oh right so when is this dinner I speak of? Tuesday, November 14, 2006 7pm.
Now when you RSVP, tell me 2 things: 1) You're in or not in. 2) Dinner at My house or the community centre...I realize that my house is a lil tight when we try to cram everyone in...but it's more cozy and a better environment than the community centre. So I want to know whether you guys mind cramming into my house for dinner.
Thanks!

I was out serving sundaes and hot chocolate yesterday at the community centre but missed many of you unfortunately. If you have time, come drop by my unit one evening and I'd be more than happy to serve you a sundae. I apologize in advance if I'm not there, but if you want, email me ahead of time. Altho I like spontaneity more.

Cecilia

IPODs and Don Evaluations
IPODs and Don Evaluations
...
What do these two have in common? Well if you fill out a Don's evaluation for me, you will be entered in a draw to win one of three IPODs that the Department of Housing and Residences/Residence Life is giving away.
It's pretty simple...go to http://www.hrf.uwaterloo.ca/DonEvals/DonEval_f06.htm
Don Evaluations are available from 12:01am Sunday October 15 - 11:59pm Thursday October 19
Where - click the link above.
What else: You will need your studentID # and your birthdate to access the form.
All your comments and evaluation will remain confidential. Neither myself nor my RLC/boss, Amy, will know who submitted the evaluation. You will only be able to submit the form once. After the form submits, you will be automatically entered in the draw to win an IPOD. The survey will take no more than 10 minutes of your time.
So why do it? Well I'm looking for some honest feedback from you, my residents, about how things are going and on how I am doing as a don. This feedback is used in my job performance appraisal and plays a critical role in determining whether I get rehired or not. It is also your chance to speak up about programming and such without being identified. So if there's something you don't like...or do like, please share it with us.
I can't make each of you fill out an evaluation (altho it'd be nice) but I can only hope that each of you will out of respect for me...for a lack of better word.
Thank you so much!
Cecilia

A special message about Eid Al Fitr from Amr (CLV North Don)
Eid Al Fitr Potluck
Hello Everyone,
As some of you may already know, Muslims are currently celebrating Ramadan. Ramadan is a month in the Islamic calendar where Muslims fast during the day (from dawn until sunset) everyday for the duration of the month. This year, Ramadan started on September 24th, and its last day will be October 23rd.After Ramadan, comes another great event for the Muslim community. This event is called "Eid Al-Fitr" (or "Eid ul-Fitr", or simply "Eid"). This can be translated as "the celebration of breaking the fast". This starts on the first day after Ramadan, and lasts for 3 days. Eid Al-Fitr is a time to come together as a community and to renew friendship and family ties. This is a time for peace for all Muslims in the world. It is a joyous occasion with important religious significance. Happiness is observed at attaining spiritual uplift after a month of fasting. Muslims dress in holiday attire. After attending the special congregational prayer in the morning, worshipers greet and embrace each other in a spirit of peace, love, and brotherhood. Visiting friends and relatives is common.
For more information about Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr, you can refer to the following links:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramadanhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_ul-Fitr
To celebrate this event, CLV is organizing *"Eid Al-Fitr Potluck"* on *Thursday October 26th, at 6:00 pm*. You are all invited to this event. Come out, congratulate your Muslim neighbors and get to know about their culture. Note that this is a potluck, so you have to bring some kind of food if you are coming. It can be a dish from your home country, a dessert dish, a drink, salad, anything that you can think of, and it does not have to be big or complicated. However, please consider the following:
1 - This is a CLV event, so do no bring any alcoholic drinks please.
2 - As a consideration to our Muslim community, please do not bring a dish that contains pork or alcohol.
3 - Due to the different dietary needs of our residents, please indicate whether your dish is vegetarian or contains meat (and what kind of meat: beef, chicken, etc.), and whether or not it contains nuts (for allergy concerns).
*Here is the event info again:*
*Event:* Eid Al-Fitr Potluck*
Date: *Thursday, Oct 26, 2006*
Time: *6:00 pm*
Location: *CLV Community Centre*
We hope to see you all there. Once again, *everyone who is attending is expected to bring something to contribute*. Please RSVP to Amr (aelhelw@cs.uwaterloo.ca) by email if you are coming (and hopefully you will), and what dish or drink you are bringing.
Thanks,

Naismith Residence Challenge
Big balls and hoops
Ok...so we may have lost in the finals to V1 last time. Don't despair...we can redeem ourselves...Campus Rec is putting on another residence challenge this Friday, October 13 at the Waterloo Men's Game half-time show. This challenge involves shooting or throwing some huge balls into hoops or rings. It's eerily like basketball but with a much bigger ball. We're looking for 9 residents to participate. If our team wins...free pizza party at Boston Pizza! Who doesn't like free food?? Contact me ASAP if you're interested at clvdon@gmail.com. I'll need your name, hometown, program of study.
You won't be caught in the rain this time...unless of course it's raining as you trek over to the PAC..but hopefully not. This will be held in the gym at the PAC.
If you don't want to be a part of this challenge, I still encourage you to come out and watch some exciting basketball. I'll be there this whole weekend for all of the UW Men's games. So come say hi! The more fans we get out the more awesome and fun it'll be!!
Email me pronto! (no athleticism or coodination required)

Recycling
Recycling
Please help the environment and the CLV staff out by throwing only recyclables into the recycling bins. Garbage needs to go into the big garbage bins (they're just opposite the recycling bins). Due to recent problems of having garbage in the recycling bins, the recycling bins are not being picked up by the contractor. This has resulted in Vince, our maintenance/carestaff go-to person picking garbage out of the recycling bins. That's not his job. So please stop throwing garbage into the recycling bins. Be forewarned that if you are caught throwing garbage into the recycling bin, you will receive an educational sanction from Amy the RLC and it's not a good one.
I appreciate you guys helping out. It only takes a few extra minutes to sort what you throw out. On that note, plastic lids from bottles need to be removed and thrown in the garbage (they apparently don't get recycled).
Cheers,
Cecilia
