Resident Profiles

Wanna be profiled? Looking for a chance to shine?

Then be profiled!

The Department of Housing and Residences is updating their website with a new feature: profiles of residents currently living in one of UW's residences.

You can log on to the website and fill out your own profile - explain your experience at CLV, your personal interests, why you enjoy living here, etc. Currently, there is no profiles for residents living at CLV (North or South) yet and we've been contacted by the website developer herself to ensure our residence is equally represented.... AS IT SHOULD BE! CLV WOOT WOOT!!!!

Click on the link and take a look for yourself. See what it takes (it doesn't take much). Then fill out a profile if you're interested.

http://www.housing.uwaterloo.ca/profiles/

This is all you. You get your chance to say what you want..of course it has to be approved. After it gets approved by the developer then your profile will be online for everyone to see! How exciting is that? Is this something that would have helped you make a decision about where to live? If so, why not contribute?

I hope to see some of your smiling faces on that website soon!
Cecilia

Don Evaluations

THANK YOU!!!!!

To all my residents,

I thank you sincerely again for being so awesome and filling out don evaluations for me. I appreciate all your honesty and feedback. There are some areas I need to focus on and it helps to know what they are. And I have certainly trying my best to incorporate your ideas for programming into the time we have left.

So I encourage you to check this blog regularly for updates and also read the emails I send you.

A few things that are in the works but I have yet to put on the calendar include:
*Pizza or Sundaes and Movie Night
*Year-end celebration ...getting fancied up for dinner and dancing at Bomber (this will be near the end of March)
*CD/DVD of all your memories of this year at CLV

I can't say thank you enough, just know that I appreciate each one of you very much! And I'm very much privileged to have had you as my first group of residents!

Cheers,
Cecilia

Chili Cook-off

Like Chili? Want to show off your cooking skills??

Then you may want to be a participant in the Great Chili Cook-off!

So here's the deal. You may get together with one other person from our units (ie. 1-25) and make a chili...from scratch or from prepared foods (but don't tell me that). Make it spicy, make it mild, make it with tomatoes, make it with turkey. Whatever floats your boat. And then we'll bring it all together either at my Unit or the CC for a taste test. Judges will be on hand to rate the best-tasting chili and however else Chili can be graded. PRIZES will be awarded! And everyone can have some delicious chili to enjoy.

So sign up for the Great Chili Cook-off today! Email me to let me know you want in: clvdon@gmail.com

Tentative date: March 21, 2007, 7pm. (Alternative date is either March 20 or 22...I'm not sure who has night class when...so if you have a preference, let me know and I'll choose the majority).

Cecilia

While our laundry's running through the washer or dryer, we will be playing boardgames! So yea....laundry/board games night. Scattergories, Trivial Pursuit, Cranium...these are only a few of the games available at CLV. Come challenge your mind! I will be bringing some snacks for everyone to enjoy.

Swap your clothes with other CLV residents

Getting sick of your wardrobe?

Then bring your gently used clothing to swap with someone else for another piece of clothing you like. Saves you from having to go shopping for new clothing or hitting up the Salvation Army to get rid of your clothes.

It's basically trading clothes for keeps, if that makes sense.

Bring all the stuff you want to trade..maybe your neighbour will bring that item you've been eyeing because it looks good on your neighbour..only it'll look better on you!

We will be settingup the CC to give each person a spot to throw all the clothing brought. After everyone has laid their items out, people will have an opportunity to peruse other people's belongings. When you find something that catches your eye, bring it to the owner and make a trade.

Something new. Something old. Something different. Something to keep.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense and I'll try to explain it better.

So when's this happening?

- Laundry party...who doesn't want to come do laundry with me??
- Boardgames night...gonna be super fun
- Clothes swap ...get rid of the clothes you don't want anymore by trading with someone else. No underwear allowed...thought I'd throw that out there. Any leftovers we'll bring to the Thrift store.
- tobogganing...last Sunday wasn't a good day for everyone apparently. So we'll do toboganning and hot chocolate another night! Stay tuned...I'm thinking the Sunday after everyone's back for Reading Week..so mark your calendars. ( March 4??)

Cheers,
Cecilia

CLV Dog Walking Program

CLV Dog Walking Program...

is a new initiative at CLV that will pair together South and North residents.

As most of you are aware, pets are not allowed in the South community but they are in the North community. And to help you cope with not having your furry friends here at school, we're hoping to pair interested students with dog owners and their dogs in the North Community for a walking program. The idea is to let South students walk a North resident's dog once or twice a week or as often as the pair desire. The program is still in the works, but if you think you'd be interested in walking some of our furry friends to take a break from studying and what not, please email me and let me know you're interested and I'll be sure to pass on the details to you when they come about.

Cheers,
Cecilia

Cables, splitters..and such

TV is great...and when it's in every room of your house..even more convenient.

Or is it??

Just a public service announcement to pass onto you all. We have been informed that many residents are splitting cable from the common area and bringing it into their rooms. This is illegal. If students desire to have cable in their room, they're expected to contact Rogers to have it installed properly and pay for the additional services.

The cable splitting has become a major concern for the school and a serious liability because it has caused some serious injury, with students tripping on cables and such that were not properly stabled or tucked away.

Here's the deal. The Department of Housing is asking that you remove all the extra cable that shouldn't be there. If you don't remove it, Vince or Margaret will. Think about it this way...no TV in your room means more time to concentrate on your studies (haha...)

Thank you for your co-operation and understanding,
Cecilia

Progressive Dinner Party

Get your cooking gear out and come for a feast at the Progressive Dinner Party!

Ok...it's not a political gathering of sort for sure. The Progressive Conservative Party won't be there. A progressive dinner party is pretty much a meal on the go!

And the party happens this Sunday, January 28, 2007 at 6:30, beginning at Unit 5.

So here's how it works...3 courses will be served: Appetizers, Main Course, Desserts. Each course will be served at a different unit within our cluster of houses...and for once, it's not at my house (it's not that I don't enjoy having you guys over).

Appetizers: Unit 5
Main Course: Unit 12
Dessert: Unit 19

Appetizers will start at 6:30pm. Once that is done, we will move onto the next unit. This will be potluck style in terms of appetizers and desserts; I will contribute the main course.

As always, please bring your own plate, cutlery and cup to dinner.

What I need from you...please RSVP by emailing me so I know how much main course to make. Once you have RSVP'd me, I will either assign you to bringing appetizers or desserts. All you need to do is bring a plate of whatever I assigned you to, enough to serve 10-15 people, whether you make it from scratch or buy it from the store, it doesn't matter to me.

How does that sound? I'm excited about this!

Do it today. I need to know final numbers by Friday, January 26 so I can go shopping.

Cheers,
Cecilia

SNOW DAY!

Jan. 15, 2007 - SNOW DAY

The University of Waterloo is closed today. Please refer to UW's homepage for procedures on Snow Days.

Blessed Winter. For our international and exchange students, I should have explained it earlier, but snow days don't happen very often, so it skipped my mind. Basically when the winter weather is "bad", the school closes to ensure everyone's safety. Only essential services will be running, such as the cafeteria in V1 or REV. The gyms will be closed and there are no lectures. Online assignments may still be handed in if due today, so you may want to check on that.

Enjoy your snow day! If you get bored, go play. But be safe! I wish I had toboggans...cuz then we could go toboganning.

Cheers,
Cecilia

Crazy to think a year ahead, but this is the time to do it. Take a look through the application, fill it out, even if you're not sure about becoming a don right now. You don't want to miss the opportunity.

Donning is a life-changing, fantastic experience. It is a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills, make new friends, spice up your resume, and have fun.

If you have any questions about any aspect of donning, please feel free to email me and I'd be more than happy to answer your questions or point you in the right direction.

Cheers,
Cecilia
